Counterpoint is working to end violence in intimate relationships.
We teach men to build relationships that are loving, healthy, and non-violent.
We help women and children who have experienced violence to heal and thrive.
Our mission is to provide holistic programming for men, women, and children that transforms the causes and consequences of domestic violence.
At Counterpoint, our Partner Assault Response (PAR) program provides court-mandated psycho-educational counselling services to men who have been abusive to their partners. Services are provided in English and Spanish, and Counterpoint has pioneered culturally- based programming that responds to the particular context of the Spanish speaking community. Both the English and Spanish PAR programs provide group counselling, screening for drugs and alcohol, risk assessment and referrals for PAR participants who may need additional support.
In 2015, we served 385 clients in its Men’s PAR Program. Of this number, a total of 52 participated in the Spanish-speaking Men's Program. We are the only agency in Toronto that offers PAR programming in Spanish and we are pleased to report that the Spanish program continues to receive popular support in the community and steady referrals for service.
Through the Women’s Advocacy Program, we use innovative programming to educate women on issues related to domestic violence as well as the rights of women and children.
Commitment to Diversity
The men who attend the PAR program represent a broad spectrum of cultural, linguistic and ethnic backgrounds. Our clients always receive effective services.
Counterpoint has been steadfast in its commitment to profssional training in the area of domestic violence. Our training programs help educators develop the skills and confidence to do effective anti-violence work.
If you want to invest in your community and are committed to improving the lives of thousands of men, women and children, please donate. Every contribution is valued and appreciated.
